Top Ten Spots for Fall Photo Fun

Fall has arrived in Pennsylvania bringing with it cool nights, apple cider, pumpkin carving, and colorful trees and plants. Chatham’s Shadyside Campus is no exception to the splendor that is fall in Appalachia. Although almost every spot on-campus is breathtaking in autumn, we have some of our favorites. We teamed up with head groundskeeper Kristen Spirl to bring you the best places for fall photos on-campus.

1) No one can deny the beauty of Laughlin especially during the autumn months. Grab your camera and catch the antique bricks as they’re hit by the setting sun.

2) Between the back entrance of Anderson and Woodland Road you’ll find this delightful patch of flowers. Strike a pose with the lamppost for a vintage-esque photoshoot.

3) Head to the back patio of Rea House for portraits in this beautiful archway or grab a quiet moment at the picnic tables.

4) These Garden Cosmos are a hidden gem on-campus. Found in the library parking lot near the Buhl greenhouse, they’ll cheer up any photo.

5) Call us basic, but there’s nothing more beautiful than the quad in fall for photos, studying, or just hanging out.

6) Inside Mellon Center, these stained glass windows are perfect for spooky silhouette shots.

7) Fall sports might not be in session this year, but the field can still be used for fun socially-distanced group photos.

8) Take a walk down Woodland Road towards Squirrel Hill and enjoy the beauty of the historic houses framed by colorful leaves.

9) The Art & Design Center holds beauty galore and the landscape is no exception. The plants and trees along the building’s perimeter make for wonderful backdrops.

10) On the patio of the Mellon Center you’ll find this beautiful overlook that is perfect for landscapes!
