Students spent 10 days in Costa Rica last month walking through coffee fields, hiking an active volcano, and exploring local markets during a class trip.

“I really enjoy building community,” said Rea House resident advisor LJ Varley ’27. “I’m a people person.”

“He grew up on campus from the age of 7,” professor Sheila Squillante said about her child, Rudy, who now attends Chatham. “Our Easter egg hunts were in front of the pond!”

“RISE was intentionally looking to connect people of color. There was space to have hard conversations and be honest about what we were experiencing,” said one student.
