Three Chatham Students Picked for Microbiology and Immunology Scholars Program

Three Chatham University undergraduate students were recently selected for the University of Pittsburgh’s Microbiology and Immunology Department (MID) Scholars Program.

Zoe Reed ’28, Lillith Scheele ’27, and Tomisin Sotomiwa ’27 were admitted into the program, which had 42 applicants this year.

Only five students were selected during this cycle of the MID Scholars program, which provides hands-on research opportunities to students at Pitt, Chatham, or Carnegie Mellon University. Second- and third-year students who have not previously considered a research career or had opportunities for hands-on research are eligible to apply.

“The recent success of three Chatham students joining the highly competitive MID Scholars program is a testament to the outstanding mentorship and academic rigor provided by Chatham’s Science faculty members,” said Jorge Sierra Fonseca, an assistant professor of neuroscience at Chatham. “It also speaks to the exceptional work by previous and current Chatham students, who have paved the way so that more Chatham students can access these unique opportunities.”
