Chatham University Announces Formation of the Falk College of Environment, Leadership, and Management
Chatham University has announced the formation of the Falk College of Environment, Leadership, and Management (ELM), which will prepare graduates to address the growing challenges that exist at the intersection of organizational leadership, environmental stewardship, and responsible management.
The new college brings together two existing schools, the School of Business and Enterprise and the Falk School of Sustainability and Environment, under one umbrella. This merger will enhance the existing close collaboration between faculty and will:
Address employers' needs for graduates who can pair business expertise with environmental responsibility, data-informed decision-making, and collaborative leadership.
Create interdisciplinary learning experiences that reflect how modern organizations operate.
Graduate leaders who can navigate the increasing complexity facing organizations and businesses.
“Business education is evolving, and so are employer expectations,” says Emily Heffernan, dean of ELM. “By bringing these schools together, ELM prepares purpose-driven graduates to combine business, data, and environmental expertise to solve complex challenges, lead across disciplines, and create meaningful change. I can't wait to see what impact they'll have.”
The merged college will contain two departments: the Department of Business Systems and the Department of Sustainability & Environment, and includes undergraduate and graduate programs in business, data science, environmental science, sustainability, and food studies. Students in ELM programs will study such issues as supply chain resilience, data analytics and artificial intelligence, geographic information systems, environmental decision science, food systems, sustainable agriculture, and more.
“President Lambert, Dean Heffernan, and the Chatham faculty recognize the opportunities for enhanced learning and outcomes that come from combining the business, sustainability, and environmental science departments to create the new school,” says Chatham Trustee and ELM benefactor, Sigo Falk. “This creative and imaginative approach will better prepare graduates for leadership in the world they will inhabit."
