Associate Professor and Director of the Master of Arts in Food Studies (MAFS) program Alice Julier did not write the book on food studies—she edited it.

Social media undergoes constant change, and change is one thing that Chatham University Social Media Manager Sarah Hamm understands well.

Sophie Costan, Biology '16 spent the summer completing a Psychiatric Genetics Internship at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. We caught up with Sophie to see what she got out of her summer internship experience. 

“The course equips students with the actual skills of leading, but it’s much more than that,” says Dr. Ramey.

I danced throughout my youth and was set on majoring in dance. My parents were a little concerned because they did not want me to have to wait tables the rest of my life!

“The class is rewarding enough that you don’t want to skip it. I got my wisdom teeth out and two days later, I was there, with ice packed onto my face,” says first-year student Elena Boyle.

“Students need to have an entrepreneurial spirit, be assertive and able to manage ambiguity in positions that might not be clearly defined, and develop large networks to advance professional opportunities.”

Through a student-run social marketing and public relations firm called Flanagan Communication Consulting, students gain real-world experience while working for social good--all without leaving campus.

Frenetic drums mingle with downtown traffic. A dancer, raffia costume bouncing in rhythm, reels in the endless circle of a looping video. On her head is a helmet-like mask just like the ones displayed in the center of the room. But unlike many art gallery objects, these masks transcend the dusty stillness of museums.

“My first full time job was at an advertising agency, which taught me that I didn’t want to sell things to people that they didn’t need, but that I was good at thinking about messages and persuasion, and wanted to explore ways to use those tools for social good.”
