Check Out These Courses During Spring ’27 Registration

It’s already that time! Registration for the Spring 2027 term is right around the corner on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

As students plan their schedules, Pulse wanted to highlight five courses offered this spring that are unique, potentially interesting to students outside their major, or just an overall fun addition to your schedule.

Take a peek below to see what Chatham is offering up this spring.

ART208: Introduction to Museum Studies

With the Carnegie museums down the road from the Shadyside Campus, why not learn more about how art museums came to be? ART208 is the perfect class for this. In this class, students will learn about the history and function of art museums, how art pieces are interpreted for a museum audience, and how museums navigate censorship and repatriation of art. The class is scheduled once a week on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

CRM332: History of Crime and Punishment

Here’s one for anyone majoring in criminology (or those just interested in criminology)! Students will learn about the history of studying crime and punishment, with a focus on what constitutes a crime, the goals of punishment, and what these two things say about a historical society. While this class requires completion of CRM101, Introduction to Criminal Justice, it could be a great addition to your spring schedule. This class is set to occur twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

FDT160: World Film History

Do you still need your Global and International Mission course? Do you love all sorts of films? Well, look no further than FDT160, World Film History. In this class, students will learn about the history of film in both Western and non-Western countries. By placing the history of film into context of world history, students will come away from this class with a better understanding of not only Hollywood, but the international film industry. This class is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

MUS210: Music & the Natural World

On top of the multitude of in-person classes, there are dozens of online courses available next semester. One of them, Music & the Natural World, will teach students about how musical composers have used nature and the great outdoors in music for generations. There will be a focus on the Early Modern period, as well as a handful of living composers. This class fulfills the Sustainability and the Environment Mission Course and is completely online.

SUS210: Sustainability and Technology

Of course, we can’t forget all the classes happening at Eden Hall this term! Sustainability and Technology will teach students about smart water systems, renewable energy both for the home and businesses, and sustainable transportation systems. This class is offered exclusively at Eden Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. It will also fulfill the Sustainability and the Environment Mission Course. Shuttles run between Shadyside Campus and Eden Hall daily.
