I’ve been admitted and I’m ready to enroll. What’s my next step?

How do I make the most of each event?

Create your own criteria, then see if we fit the bill!

Many people in your life will have advice for what you should look for in a college, and you should listen to them! But you should also develop your own criteria based on what you think is important. Take some time and really think about what you want your college life to be like. Academics are important, but so are location, class size, demographics, and extracurriculars. Even if you only have a vague idea, try to break down that idea into smaller pieces, make a list, and check it off as you attend admissions events.

Ask questions

Advocate for yourself by asking questions! It can be daunting to speak up, but our Admissions staff knows that almost everyone they work with is brand new at this, so there are no “stupid questions;” only students who want to make sure they’re finding the right fit. That’s what we want too, so don’t be afraid to look at your list of criteria and enquire.

Explore city resources

Get context for what it means to be here, in this space, in this city. Pittsburgh is an amazing town for sports fans, culture lovers, bikers, hikers, and students of all stripes. Think about what the whole city has to offer you in terms of housing, internships, health resources, recreation, and more. Explore our Guide to Pittsburgh series to get a jumping-off point.

Be proactive

Keep your mind on deadlines, ask your Admissions counselor what your next steps should be, and stay on top of emails and other official communications. Getting organized and doing things promptly but thoughtfully is the best way to feel in control of your college search.

Really picture yourself at Chatham

Imagine yourself— your tastes, preferences, habits, and hobbies— living at Chatham. Take a walk from campus to our nearest neighborhoods of Shadyside or Squirrel Hill to get a feel for where you might be hanging out. Have a meal in the dining hall. Tour the Athletic and Fitness Center to picture future workouts. If you’ve got a job or are planning to live elsewhere, explore your commute. Look at our list of student organizations and see what interests you. If you’re planning on spending the next four years at Chatham, we want you to love it as much as we do.

We hope you join us at an Admissions event soon!
