Rachel Carson Visiting Scholars Program Opens Applications for 2026 and 2027

Applications for the Rachel Carson Visiting Scholars program, which allows established and emerging leaders to spend weeks living at Chatham University’s Eden Hall Farm, are now open for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 academic years.

The application is available here. Deadlines are September 1, 2025, for the 2026-27 academic year and February 1, 2026, for the 2027-28 academic year.

Launched in 2022, the Rachel Carson Visiting Scholars Program is an opportunity for academics and leaders in government, the private sector, or community organizations to spend up to four weeks in residence at the sustainability-focused Eden Hall Farm.

While there, scholars can share their ideas and experiences through public lectures and presentations. They’ll also be able to talk with faculty and students from the Falk School of Sustainability & Environment about our common future.

“The Rachel Carson Visiting Scholars program provides an unparalleled opportunity for cross-fertilization,” says Matthew Redinger, Ph.D., the acting dean of the Falk School of Sustainability & Environment.

“It provides Chatham and greater Pittsburgh chances to hear from and learn about some cutting-edge scholars in areas important to Chatham and the Falk School: sustainable community development, environmental justice, and food studies, and it allows visiting scholars to advance their own scholarly work through their experiences at Chatham and the Eden Hall Farm.”
